How fitting day works
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that are not straight, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays during the design visit.
- You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
- We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
- A written quote follows, with the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
- On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall.
Preparing the room
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

It’s useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Loft storage in Knightsbridge
A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. We shape wardrobes to the slope, putting hanging space at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it is low. It uses the full height of the room. We’ll plan it during the design visit in Knightsbridge. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are seasonal things cluttering the loft room and a boarded loft with no proper shelving.
With a large share of homes around Knightsbridge built before 1919, under-stairs cupboards in older terraces often house the meters or the fuse board. Meter readers and engineers need to get to them, so the design keeps them accessible. Sash and bay windows are common in houses of that age too, and good places for seating with storage below.
You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What loft storage can’t fix
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Building Regulations approval for a conversion
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
- Building work to turn a loft into a room
Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can get in touch through our contact form and we will tell you. How a job runs, step by step.
Materials and parts
- Hand-painted finish
- Eaves doors and drawers
- Sloped wardrobe tops
- Birch plywood
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
What it costs
There is no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The width and height of the space
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.
Before the design visit
When you contact us, these help most:
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Examples of the look you are after
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly during the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
Storage in Knightsbridge homes: local notes
In the neighbourhood around Knightsbridge, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 67%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 15%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Within a mile of the centre of Knightsbridge, 17 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. More than half of the homes in the area around Knightsbridge (about 67%) were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Many older terraces have had loft conversions, leaving eaves spaces and slopes that suit fitted storage.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Apsley House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. For an older house near Deutsche Evangelische Christuskirche, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.
Knightsbridge is in the City of Westminster, about 1 mile north-east of City of Westminster. Whether your home in Knightsbridge is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Knightsbridge is one of the places in Westminster where we make loft storage, and the borough has 29 places on our list.
Here we cover the SW1X, SW3 and W1K postcode area for loft storage. Flat-pack or bespoke?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.
What prompts loft storage in Knightsbridge
Many people get in touch once their loft conversion is complete. The room is there, but the furniture to fit it isn’t. Storage made for the slopes completes it.
People typically get in touch with us about things like these:
- A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
- A dormer that is not being used
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
- Space under the eaves going to waste
If your children go to Hellenic College of London or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.
Before you hire any carpenter
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Whether the route into your home has been checked

Your questions about loft storage in Knightsbridge
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Knightsbridge?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you cover homes near London Victoria station?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can you get furniture up narrow loft stairs?
We measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft room. We size every section for the tightest turn, and the pieces are put together in the room.
My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?
Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
