Loft storage in Norwood New Town

How we make loft storage for Norwood New Town

Behind the short walls at the edge of a loft room, there’s often space going to waste. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Pull-out drawers mean you do not have to crawl in. We measure and plan for the space you have in Norwood New Town. If your home has a new loft conversion that needs storage and a dormer that isn’t being used, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Wherever your home in Norwood New Town sits in London’s mix of housing, there’s usually a space that could work harder. That space can take fitted storage, laid out for what you need to keep. Each wall is checked so the fixings suit it.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What it’s made from

Moisture-resistant MDF

In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It forms the doors and panels.

Plinths and scribe strips

Loft rooms are seldom square. Scribe strips and a plinth take up the difference. The result is neat, even lines all round.

Pricing loft storage in Norwood New Town

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • Parking near your home
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What to send when you contact us

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it helps to send:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • How you want to use the space
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. When you are ready, fill in our short enquiry form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

The problems loft storage solve

The most common reason is wasted space. The low spaces at the edge of a loft room are hard to use. Built-in storage makes that space useful.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • A loft room with too many jobs
  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room

The wider area includes historic houses like Kingswood House, about 0.8 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards.

Choosing a carpenter

  • A quote in writing that sets out the job
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check during the design visit.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.

Making use of tricky spaces in Norwood New Town

About 30% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Norwood New Town went up before 1919, and about 22% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Within a mile of the centre of Norwood New Town, 11 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If you live on or close to a main road in Norwood New Town, let us know during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

If you live in a period home close to New Covenant Church-Equipping People, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. For a family home near Rockmount Primary School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

From workshop to your room

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so let us know what’s near you at the measuring visit. For a flat, building rules on lifts and working hours are worth checking.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Preparing the room

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Common questions about loft storage

Do you cover homes near Gipsy Hill station?

Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is Norwood New Town in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes. Norwood New Town is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Croydon and London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No, the conversion itself is not our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

How is the furniture painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.
