Gipsy Hill Loft Storage
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make loft storage for homes in Gipsy Hill, each designed at a visit to your home.
- A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
- Furniture that cannot get up to the loft
Loft storage in Gipsy Hill
How we make loft storage for Gipsy Hill
Behind an eaves door, there’s often insulation and a need for ventilation. Storage shouldn’t block the ventilation or squash the insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft. We look at this at the design visit in Gipsy Hill. Typical reasons to get in touch are wasted space behind the knee walls and a loft room that still feels unfinished, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Many homes around Gipsy Hill date from the post-war decades. Homes from that era tend to have simpler shapes than older houses, with fewer recesses, which means eaves cupboards can add storage that was never built in. The fixings are chosen for the wall, whether it is concrete, blockwork or brick.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

From workshop to your room
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Estates sometimes have their own parking rules alongside the council’s, so it helps to tell us at the design visit. On the day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- It starts when you contact us with some details about the loft, and how you get up to it.
- We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and discuss the design, including the headroom under the slope.
- A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
- Your storage is made in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour.
- We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
How to prepare
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
How to get a quote
You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form. The written quote follows the visit.

How we price loft storage
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:
- The number of doors and drawers
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
Before the design visit
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Examples of the look you are after
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough measurements. To share them, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Do you need loft storage in Gipsy Hill?
Some people have a boarded loft and want proper shelving. Shelves and cupboards keep things off the floor and easy to find. It is ideal for things you need now and then.
If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
- A new loft conversion that needs storage
- A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
- No wardrobe that fits under the slope
If your children go to Paxton Primary School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

Fitted storage in Gipsy Hill
About 35% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Gipsy Hill went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 29% before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Gipsy Hill, Historic England’s list includes Subway (Grade II*), under half a mile east, and Christ Church (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. Where a home in Gipsy Hill is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that at the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.
If you live in a flat close to Gipsy Hill station, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. Kingswood House, about 0.5 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.

What it is made from
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done on site once the storage is in. It is easy to touch up if it gets marked. That suits a room in daily use.
Spray-painted finish
Spraying gives a smooth, even surface. It’s done in our workshop before fitting. The colour is agreed with you.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit.
Common questions about loft storage
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Gipsy Hill?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.
Does a conservation area in or near Gipsy Hill affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do you cover Gipsy Hill?
Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, and that includes Gipsy Hill.
Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We plan it at the design visit.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No. We do not carry out loft conversions. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
Do you work outside London?
No. We only take on work in London.
