Materials and finishes
Plinths and scribe strips
We trim scribe strips to the exact line of the wall and ceiling. They’re one reason fitted storage looks built in. The plinth does the same job at the floor.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well. It suits the doors, drawer fronts and panels, where a smooth, even finish matters.
About our loft storage in Sydenham
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. We do not carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. If you have a converted loft in Sydenham, the design visit is the first step. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are furniture that can’t get up to the loft and a new loft conversion that needs storage.
Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, and so do the awkward corners, from bays and stairs to halls and eaves. Eaves cupboards are designed for the space you have. Meters, fuse boards and boilers keep the access they need.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

How fitting works for loft storage
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so let us know what’s near you at the design visit. If you live in a flat, any lift or building rules are worth checking too.
- First you let us know about the loft room and what you’d like to store there.
- We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and discuss the design.
- We send a written quote setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
- Your storage is made in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour.
- We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Ask for a quote
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.

Loft storage in Sydenham: local notes
In the area around Sydenham, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 28%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The Sydenham Thorpes Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Sydenham. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. That typically means a van in Sydenham needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.
For families living near Kirkdale School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If you live near Mayow Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. For a flat near Sydenham station, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
Sydenham is part of the London Borough of Lewisham, about 3 miles north of New Cross. From period terraces to newer flats in Sydenham, we measure the room as it is and design around it. In Lewisham, Sydenham is one of the places we cover.
In SE26, SE20 and SE23, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets like Byne Road, Lucas Road and Cator Road, whether you want loft storage or another piece made for the room. Other places close to Sydenham include Penge (1 mile south), Crystal Palace (1 mile south-west), Sydenham Hill (1 mile north-west), Perry Vale (1 mile north-east) and Anerley (1 mile south-west). Elsewhere in Lewisham, we also cover New Cross (3 miles north), St Johns (3 miles north-east), Deptford (4 miles north), Catford (2 miles north-east), Lewisham (3 miles north-east) and Surrey Canal (4 miles north).
Near you in Sydenham
Our area takes in the homes around Fox & Hounds pub, Sydenham High School and St Bartholomews's Church of England Primary School, among other places. Sydenham has its own railway station: Sydenham station. A little further out are Crystal Palace Museum (1 mile west) and St Christopher's Hospice (under half a mile south-west). Green spaces nearby include Dacres Wood.
How we price loft storage
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Parking near your home
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- The overall size of the piece
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Helping us understand the room
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- How you want to use the space
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
Questions we are often asked
Is Sydenham in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. Sydenham is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Lewisham and London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Sydenham station?
Yes. We cover all of Lewisham and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?
Yes. The wardrobe follows the angle of the ceiling, with hanging where there is height. It uses the full height of the room. We’ll work out the layout when we visit.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Typically not. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That is normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
What loft storage can’t fix
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:
- Electrical work in the loft
- Converting the loft itself, which is not our work
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
