Loft storage for your home in Arkley
Loft storage for homes in Arkley
Behind an eaves door, there is often insulation and a need for ventilation. Storage shouldn’t block the ventilation or squash the insulation. If you have concerns about what’s behind the eaves, ask the people who did the conversion. When we visit in Arkley, we will see what’s there. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are nowhere to store bags and boxes and wasted space behind the knee walls.
An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Arkley is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

FAQs: loft storage in Arkley
Can you make loft storage for a home in Arkley?
Yes. Arkley is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Barnet and London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
I live near Elstree & Borehamwood station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Barnet and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
What happens at the measuring visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We will also ask about access and parking.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No. We don’t carry out loft conversions. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you.

Pricing loft storage in Arkley
There is no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How big the furniture is
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Parking near your home
Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, written once we’ve measured up.
What we need to know
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it’s useful to send:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Where you live, with the postcode
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Is bespoke worth it?
A ready-made cupboard pushed into the eaves can block airflow. Bespoke storage is designed so it doesn’t block ventilation or squash insulation. It helps keep the space in good order. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It’s useful to talk about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

How fitting day works
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- It starts with a few details from you.
- We come to measure and go through the design and finish.
- A written quote follows.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
- Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.
Preparing the room
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Tell us about parking near your home
Starting with a design visit
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough sizes. To share them, use our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
Advice
Making use of awkward spaces in Arkley
In the neighbourhood around Arkley, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 35%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 33%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Arkley, Historic England’s list includes Arkley Windmill (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south-west, and Church of St Peter (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home in Arkley is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
For families living near Whitings Hill Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. If you live in a flat close to Elstree & Borehamwood station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. Close to Whitings Hill Open Space? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Flats, leases and landlords
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
