Loft Storage in Bankside

In Bankside, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope

Loft storage for your home in Bankside

How we make loft storage for Bankside

Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so the sections we make in our workshop can be carried up. It’s part of the job for any loft room in Bankside. If your home has low eaves that nobody can use and seasonal things cluttering the loft room, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

In a home built since 2000, there are often spaces the builder left plain, like a recess, a landing corner or an empty cupboard. Around Bankside, many homes were built since 2000, so spaces like that are worth a second look. Drawers and shelves can make use of the full depth.

We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Why bespoke in Bankside?

With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. We paint the storage in the colour you choose, so it sits with the rest of the room. Newer homes often have compact rooms where standard furniture leaves awkward gaps, while fitted furniture is made to the room. It can also be planned around boxed-in pipes and risers.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Why choose us

Your questions about loft storage in Bankside

Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Bankside?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Bankside?

Yes. We cover all of Southwark and the rest of London, and Bankside is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?

Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We plan it at the design visit.

How is loft storage priced?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Will eaves storage block the ventilation?

Not if it is planned with care. We design eaves storage so it does not block ventilation or squash insulation. If you have concerns about what’s already behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check during the design visit.

The problems loft storage solve

A boarded loft can be made far more useful with shelving. Shelves and cupboards keep things off the floor and easy to find. It suits seasonal things and boxes.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope
  • A dormer that is not being used
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room

If your children go to London Nautical School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • How parking will work on your street
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • How doors and drawers are fitted

Loft storage in Bankside: local notes

Homes built since 2000 make up about 48% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Bankside, with about 19% built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List has 260 entries within half a mile of the centre of Bankside. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and eaves cupboards can be designed to work around them. Newer homes are more common around Bankside than across Southwark: about 48% date from 2000 onwards, against about 28%, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That makes plasterboard stud walls and compact rooms more likely, which shapes the fixings and sizes.

Mansion House, about 0.6 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. Living in a block of flats near London Blackfriars station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

How fitting works for loft storage

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the loft room, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. Your storage is made in our workshop, shaped to the loft, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill, with the doors and drawers checked with you.
