Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Bankside
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Bankside
You don’t need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, with doors or left open. Any new partition wall is for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a walk-in wardrobe in a box room and a built-in dressing table.
A large number of homes around Bankside date from 2000 onwards, and in newer homes, bedrooms tend to be compact, with plasterboard stud walls. Walk-in wardrobes are fixed into the studs or held by fixings made for the board. Any built-in cupboard that came with the home can be replaced or extended to match.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. The furniture is built in sections that fit the lift and doorways.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
- You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
- We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
- Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
How to get a quote
It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Questions we’re often asked
Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Bankside?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Bankside?
Yes. We cover all of Southwark and the rest of London, and Bankside is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a written quote.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Bankside
Homes built since 2000 make up about 48% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Bankside, with about 19% built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Bankside, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Benet (Grade I), under half a mile north, and College of Arms (Grade I), less than half a mile north. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Streets close to central London are often narrow and busy, with loading bays in short supply, so the route from the van to your door is planned ahead of time.
If you live near Bernie Spain Gardens, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. If you live in a period home close to St Mary Mounthaw, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Building work to create the room
- Painting the walls of the room
- Electrical work in the room
If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Bankside?
Others want a dressing table built in alongside the storage. A dressing table with drawers and a mirror can sit within a walk-in wardrobe, close to the clothes and shoes.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
- Room for two wardrobes in one space
- A bedroom without crowded wardrobes
- A use for a small spare room
For a family home near London Nautical School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether you will get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Real projects you can actually look at
- How they handle walls that are not straight

What else we make in Bankside
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.
