Loft storage in Cambridge Heath
Each eaves cupboard is made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the carcasses and drawers their strength, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Cambridge Heath. We make eaves cupboards from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are furniture that can’t get up to the loft and wasted space behind the knee walls.
If you live in one of the post-war homes around Cambridge Heath, you may have wide windows with radiators underneath. Seating over a radiator needs a grille or open front to keep the heat moving. Elsewhere, fitted storage can fill hallways, landings and the space under the stairs.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the eaves cupboard we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

Making use of tricky spaces in Cambridge Heath
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Cambridge Heath were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 32%) and before 1919 (about 23%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 24 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Cambridge Heath. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Cambridge Heath, as it does anywhere else in London. We plan parking and access with you at the measuring visit.
If your home is one of the older houses near St James-the-Less, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Near listed buildings like Church of St John on Bethnal Green, about 0.5 miles south of the centre of Cambridge Heath, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.
Cambridge Heath is part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, about 1 mile south-west of Whitechapel. Anywhere in Cambridge Heath, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Our Tower Hamlets coverage includes Cambridge Heath and the places around it.
Postcode districts we cover here for loft storage: E2, E8 and E9. You’ll find streets here such as Gore Road, Ion Square and Globe Road, and we cover homes on all of them for loft storage. Boards, parts and paint
Plinths and scribe strips
Loft rooms are seldom square. Scribe strips and a plinth take up the difference. That keeps the lines neat all round.
Doors and drawer fronts
What you see of the storage is mostly its fronts. They can be plain or panelled, with handles chosen to suit the room. They’re cut to follow the angle of the ceiling.

Questions we are often asked
Does a conservation area in or near Cambridge Heath affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Is Cambridge Heath in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes, Cambridge Heath is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. Once your loft is converted, we can design the storage.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.
What affects the cost of loft storage
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Parking near your home
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- How big the furniture is
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
What we need to know
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
What happens on fitting day
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Communal stairs in older blocks often have tight landings, so sections are sized for both the stairs and any lift. Letting the caretaker or managing agent know in advance helps. Common parts are protected while we carry in.
- It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
- At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
- Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.
Before fitting day
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
Starting with a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Do you need loft storage in Cambridge Heath?
The most common reason is wasted space. The low spaces at the edge of a loft room are hard to use. Built-in storage makes that space useful.
Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
- Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
- Low eaves that nobody can use
If you live near Haggerston Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
Honest limits
Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we don’t do:
- Converting the loft itself, which is not our work
- Structural changes, like cutting into rafters or joists
- Adding or replacing insulation
If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room. How it works.
