Loft storage for your home in Spitalfields
How we make loft storage for Spitalfields
A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there’s height and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We will plan it at the measuring visit in Spitalfields. Typical reasons to get in touch are seasonal things cluttering the loft room and furniture that can’t get up to the loft; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Newer homes often have plain spaces left as they are: a recess beside the stairs, a gap by a window, an empty cupboard. Many homes around Spitalfields date from 2000 onwards, and fitted storage can make spaces like that far more useful. The layout inside is planned to use the full depth.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

What we do not do
We are carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- Building Regulations approval for a conversion
- Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
- Electrical work in the loft
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.
Boards, parts and finishes

- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Eaves doors and drawers
- Sloped wardrobe tops
- Hand-painted finish

Is it time for loft storage?
A sloping ceiling makes a standard wardrobe impossible. A wardrobe made for the slope uses the full height. It is often the main reason people get in touch about a loft bedroom.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Boxes piled on loft boards
- Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
- No wardrobe that fits under the slope
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
If your children go to Makers Academy or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.
Before you choose who makes it
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
Flats, leases and landlords
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece cannot. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. In an open-plan room, standalone pieces can look scattered, whereas fitted furniture can define each part of the room.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.

Storage in Spitalfields homes: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Spitalfields were built since 2000 (about 45%) and before 1919 (about 19%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Part of Spitalfields is in the Wentworth Street Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Tower Hamlets included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Spitalfields. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.
Mansion House, about 0.7 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Botolph, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

Your questions about loft storage in Spitalfields
I live near London Liverpool Street station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Is Spitalfields in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. Spitalfields is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets and London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.
Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?
Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Both are stable, which matters in a loft room. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
How fitting works for loft storage
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it’s useful to let us know at the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

Arranging a design visit
It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
