Loft Storage in North Brixton
In North Brixton, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. Your eaves cupboard is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
- Nowhere to store bags and boxes
- A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
Loft storage designed for your room
About our loft storage in North Brixton
A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. We design and make eaves cupboards, drawers in the knee walls, wardrobes under the slopes and shelves in dormers, all made for the shape of the room. For a home in North Brixton, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. Typical reasons to get in touch are low eaves that nobody can use and unused space in a dormer, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Most homes around North Brixton are purpose-built flats, from mansion blocks to newer blocks. Mansion block flats often have long hallways, bays and high ceilings that suit fitted storage, while newer flats tend to have compact halls and boxed-in services. If you have a maisonette or duplex, the stairs can take storage too.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf pieces come in the maker’s finishes. We paint the storage in the colour you choose, so it sits with the rest of the room. In a flat, every bit of floor counts, and standalone furniture uses more of it than it needs. Fitted furniture can go to the ceiling and fill a recess exactly, leaving more floor clear.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

More for homes in North Brixton
From workshop to your room
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Noise from drilling travels in a block, so neighbours may appreciate a note, and some buildings set hours for noisy work. We plan the day to suit those rules. Saturday work is by prior arrangement where the building permits it.
- You get in touch and let us know about the loft and the stairs up to it.
- At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway. Let us know about parking too, as a van often needs a permit or a paid bay.
- A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit.
How to prepare
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
Ask for a quote
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Advice
Honest limits
We do not treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
- Structural changes, such as cutting into rafters or joists
- Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we will tell you. How a job runs, step by step.
Materials and parts
- Eaves doors and drawers
- Hand-painted finish
- Spray-painted finish
- Birch plywood
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Sloped wardrobe tops
What prompts loft storage in North Brixton
A sloping ceiling makes a standard wardrobe impossible. Bespoke wardrobes follow the slope. It is a common need in a loft bedroom.
These come up often when people first get in touch:
- Boxes piled on loft boards
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- A loft room with too many jobs
- Unused space in a dormer
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St John the Divine, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
Flats, blocks and rented homes
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls during the design visit.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases.
Making use of tricky spaces in North Brixton
The biggest shares of homes in the area around North Brixton were built before 1919 (about 28%) and since 2000 (about 26%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 20 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central North Brixton. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. About 69% of households in the area around North Brixton live in purpose-built flats, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
Living in a block of flats near Loughborough Junction station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For an older house near St Michael's Church, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.

Your questions about loft storage in North Brixton
My home in North Brixton is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in North Brixton?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No, the conversion itself is not our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
It is something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.
What materials do you use for loft storage?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
