Loft storage in Streatham
Loft storage in Streatham
Behind an eaves door, there’s often insulation and a need for ventilation. We design the storage so it does not block airflow or crush insulation. If you have concerns about what’s behind the eaves, ask the people who did the conversion. When we visit in Streatham, we’ll see what’s there. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are low eaves that nobody can use and a loft room with too many jobs.
A solid brick outside wall in an older house can be cold and sometimes damp, so storage against it is designed with ventilation behind. That matters around Streatham, where a large share of the homes are that old. Damp should be sorted before anything is fitted against the wall.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Storage in Streatham homes: local notes
In the neighbourhood around Streatham, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 55%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 17%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The centre of Streatham is within about a quarter of a mile of the Streatham High Road and Streatham Hill Conservation Area. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. For fitting in Streatham, a van normally needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Parking is worth mentioning during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Close to Streatham Common? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If you live in a period home close to St Leonard's Church, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Roman Catholic Church of the English Martyrs, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.
Streatham is in the London Borough of Lambeth, about 3 miles north of Stockwell. Wherever you are in Streatham, the process is the same: a design visit, a written quote, furniture made at our workshop and fitting in your home. In Lambeth, Streatham is one of the places we cover.
In SW16, SW2, CR4 and SW12, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. If your home is on a street like Stanthorpe Road, Gleneagle Mews and Madeira Road, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for loft storage. Main roads around Streatham include the A205 and A216, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. We also cover the places around Streatham: Streatham Park (1 mile west), Furzedown (1 mile west), Streatham Hill (1 mile north), Hyde farm estate (1 mile north) and Grange Mills (1 mile north-west). Elsewhere in Lambeth, we also cover Stockwell (3 miles north), Kennington (4 miles north), North Brixton (3 miles north), Little Portugal (3 miles north), Clapham (3 miles north) and South Bank (5 miles north). As one of the bigger places in Lambeth, Streatham is covered for all of our fitted furniture.

FAQs: loft storage in Streatham
Do you cover homes near Streatham station?
Yes, homes across Lambeth and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
How do you fit loft storage in a flat in Streatham?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Eaves cupboards are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
What do eaves cupboards cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. For a quote, message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Both are stable, which matters in a loft room. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.
What happens when you come to measure?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. The wardrobe follows the angle of the ceiling, with hanging where there’s height. It makes the most of the space. We will work out the layout when we visit.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
How we price loft storage
Several things affect the price:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Spray painting or hand painting
- The width and height of the space
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What to send when you contact us
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Your postcode and the borough
We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
Why bespoke in Streatham?
With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. We paint the storage in the colour you choose, so it can match the walls and the woodwork. Chimney breasts in older houses stand out by different amounts, so the recesses either side are rarely the same, which means a matching pair of ready-made units seldom fits both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

What happens on fitting day
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

Advice
What loft storage cannot fix
Some parts of a job need another trade, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Approval for structural changes
- Electrical work in the loft
- Any work on the structure of the house
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.
