Loft storage in Stockwell, Lambeth

Loft storage in Stockwell: eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts. We make each piece in our workshop and fit it in your home.

Why bespoke in Stockwell?

With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. We paint the storage in the colour you choose, so it sits with the rest of the room. Standard furniture sizes rarely suit the shape of a flat, leaving gaps or crowding a door or radiator. Built-in pieces are designed around them.

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Why choose us

  • More than 300 projects completed
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Saturday work by arrangement
  • Scribed to uneven walls

Loft storage for homes in Stockwell

Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. We measure the route not just the room, so the sections we make in our workshop can be carried up. It’s part of the job for any loft room in Stockwell. Most enquiries start with standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs and unused space in a dormer, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Walls in a block of flats can be concrete, brick, block or plasterboard, sometimes all in one flat. Since most households around Stockwell live in purpose-built flats, each wall is checked before fixings are chosen. On a stud wall, heavier pieces stand on the floor and are tied back.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Loft storage in Stockwell: local notes

About 36% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Stockwell went up before 1919, and about 24% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 132 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Stockwell. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Lambeth included. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Stockwell, as it does anywhere else in London. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.

For a family home near St Andrew's Church of England Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. The wider area includes historic houses such as Carlyle's House, about 2.4 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

Stockwell is within the London Borough of Lambeth. Wherever you are in Stockwell, the process is the same: a design visit, a written quote, furniture made at our workshop and fitting in your home. Across Lambeth, we cover Stockwell.

Design visits and fitting in SW9, SW4 and SW8 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. You’ll find streets here like Kay Road, West Road and Cato Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for loft storage. Nearby, we also make loft storage in Little Portugal (1 mile north), Angell Town (1 mile east), North Brixton (1 mile north-east), South Lambeth (1 mile north) and Clapham (1 mile west). Across the rest of Lambeth, our area takes in Streatham (3 miles south), West Norwood (3 miles south), South Bank (3 miles north), Waterloo (2 miles north), Vauxhall (2 miles north) and Lambeth (2 miles north). FAQs: loft storage in Stockwell

I live near Brixton station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Lambeth and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make loft storage for homes in Stockwell?

Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London, and Stockwell is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

What prompts loft storage in Stockwell

Some people have a boarded loft and want proper shelving. Storage in a boarded loft keeps everything organised. It suits seasonal things and boxes.

Requests we hear often include:

  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
  • Boxes piled on loft boards
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Stockwell Green United Reformed Church, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • How parking will work on your street
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

When you need someone else

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
  • Electrical work in the loft
  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

How fitting day works

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Sections come into the flat in the order they’re fitted, so the flat does not fill up. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. The fixings suit each wall, whether solid or stud.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the loft room.
  2. We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls, and talk through the design with you.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.

Preparing the room

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Arranging a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Advice

Pricing loft storage in Stockwell

What you pay depends on:

  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Spray painting or hand painting

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
