About our loft storage in Hatton
Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. We measure the route along with the room itself, so every section built in our workshop fits up the stairs. It is a step that matters for any loft in Hatton. People normally come to us about a loft room with too many jobs and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Hatton, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bays at the front suit a seat with storage below, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Each space is measured and eaves cupboards are made to suit it.
The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

How fitting day works
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.
- You get in touch and let us know about your converted or boarded loft, and how you get up to it.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you, including the headroom under the slope.
- You receive a quote in writing for the storage we have discussed, for you to look over.
- The cupboards and drawers are built in our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted in the loft and checked, door by door, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
How to prepare
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Questions from Hatton
Is parking a problem for fitting in Hatton?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.
Do you cover homes near Heathrow Terminal 4 Rail station?
Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room.
What materials do you use for loft storage?
The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
How is loft storage priced?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Drawers in the knee wall usually involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. We set it all out in a quote in writing.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We plan it at the design visit.
Pricing loft storage in Hatton
Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- The overall size of the piece
We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Getting in touch
When you contact us, these help most:
- How you want to use the space
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Your postcode and the borough
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit. To arrange it, get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
Knee-wall drawers often carry a real load. That is why we make drawer boxes from birch plywood. It also suits long shelves.
Doors and drawer fronts
The doors and drawer fronts are the face of the storage. They can be plain or panelled, with handles chosen to suit the room. Their tops follow the line of the slope.
Hatton homes and loft storage
About 40% of the homes in the streets around Hatton went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 31% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Hatton, Historic England’s list includes Green Man Public House (Grade II), under half a mile south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. More than a third of the homes in the streets around Hatton (about 40%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Loft conversions are common in houses of that age, and the eaves can take fitted storage; we build the storage once the loft is converted or boarded.

For a family home near Cranford Primary School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. If you live in a period home close to The Parish Church of the Good Shepherd, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?
A ready-made cupboard pushed into the eaves can block airflow. Bespoke storage is designed so it doesn’t block ventilation or squash insulation. That’s important for the health of the loft. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
