Loft storage for your home in Edgware

How we make loft storage for Edgware

Sloping ceilings make standard wardrobes hard to fit. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there’s height and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the room’s height. We will plan it at the design visit in Edgware. Most enquiries start with a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A good part of the housing around Edgware is interwar, semi-detached or detached. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the bay window at the front, the space under the stairs and the box room are the usual places to gain storage. Any meters or fuse board under the stairs stay accessible, and the storage is planned around them.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Honest limits

Some parts of a job need another trade, such as an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Adding or replacing insulation
  • Electrical work in the loft
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion

If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How it works.

What it is made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Sloped wardrobe tops

Fitting day, step by step

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are typically straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the loft room, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls, and go through the design with you.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. Your storage is built in our workshop, shaped to the loft, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.

Preparing the room

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

When is bespoke worth it?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s easy to buy.

Loft storage in Edgware: local notes

About 58% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Edgware went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 17% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Edgware include John Keble Church (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-east. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Barnet has its own. Where a street in Edgware is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Let us know what the parking is like at the design visit.

For families living near Beit Shvidler Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. If your home is one of the older houses near St Andrew, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. Close to Stoneyfields Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Questions we’re often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Edgware?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Edgware?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London, and Edgware is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design.

How much does loft storage cost?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and we will arrange a design visit.

Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?

A good design avoids that. We look behind the knee wall at the measuring visit and plan the storage so air can still move. We don’t alter insulation or vents.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. Once your loft is converted, we can design the storage.

Practical tips

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Note any vents or insulation in the eaves
  • Make a list of what you want to store in the eaves
  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Choose a calm colour for the loft

We open each door and run each drawer with you before we go. If there’s an access door to the eaves, we make sure it opens fully. You’ll know it all works as it should.

Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If something stops working smoothly, drop us a line using the contact form and describe it.

Pricing loft storage in Edgware

Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.

What to send when you contact us

A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Examples of the look you’re after

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, use our contact form with some details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
