Loft Storage in Lissenden Gardens

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on loft storage in Lissenden Gardens starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft

Loft storage in Lissenden Gardens: what you get

Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so every section made at our workshop fits up the stairs. It’s part of the job for any loft room in Lissenden Gardens. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom and nowhere to store bags and boxes.

In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Lissenden Gardens, under-stairs cupboards in older terraces often house the meters or the fuse board. Meter readers and engineers need to get to them, so the design keeps them accessible. Bays and sash windows in period houses are natural spots for a window seat.

Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

From workshop to your room

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
  2. We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level.

Advice

Tips worth knowing

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
  • Let us know about parking at the measuring visit
  • Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
  • Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can

We open each door and run each drawer with you before we go. If there’s an access door to the eaves, we make sure it opens fully. That way, everything works as planned.

Temperatures in a loft room can swing more than elsewhere. Keep the room ventilated. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

Is bespoke worth it?

Ready-made furniture has to come up the loft stairs in one piece or flat-packed. Our storage is made in sections sized for the route. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room. Tall ceilings in older homes leave a band of empty wall above standard furniture, and that space collects dust instead of storage. Built-in pieces can run to the cornice or the picture rail.

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Common questions about loft storage

I live near Gospel Oak station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Camden and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Lissenden Gardens?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No, the conversion itself is not our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.

Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?

A good design avoids that. At the design visit we check what’s there and leave the space it needs. Insulation and ventilation work itself is not ours.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.

Honest limits

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Altering the structure of the loft
  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish

What affects the cost of loft storage

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How square the room is

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Before the design visit

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • How you want to use the space
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Storage in Lissenden Gardens homes: local notes

About 49% of the homes in the area around Lissenden Gardens went up before 1919, and about 18% between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Lissenden Gardens, 18 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. In inner London, a large part of the street parking sits inside borough-run controlled parking zones. A van working in Lissenden Gardens will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. Tell us what parking is near you at the design visit.

Close to Parliament Hill? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. For a flat near Gospel Oak station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Near listed buildings like Church of St Martin, under half a mile south of the centre of Lissenden Gardens, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
