Loft storage in Southgate, Barnet

We make loft storage for homes in Southgate, designed around the room you have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope

Loft storage in Southgate

Loft storage in Southgate

Many loft rooms are bedrooms, and storage for clothes is the first need. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. For a home in Southgate, it is planned around your things. Most enquiries start with a converted loft with no fitted furniture and wasted space behind the knee walls, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

An interwar house typically has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, and that space can take shallow fitted storage. If yours is one of the interwar houses, semis or detached homes that make up much of the housing around Southgate, the landing is worth a look as well as the hall. If a boiler or cylinder sits there, it keeps its clearances and access.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

How fitting day works

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.

  1. It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up, and talk through the design with you.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Arranging a design visit

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.

Storage in Southgate homes: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 59% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Southgate, with about 16% built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Southgate, Historic England’s list includes Essex House and Arnoside House (Grade II*), less than half a mile south-east, and Avington Croft Cottage Holcombe House (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If you live in a period home close to Christ Church Southgate Parish Church, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. If your children go to Ashmole Primary School or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. For a flat near New Southgate station, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Southgate is part of the London Borough of Barnet, about 3 miles south-west of Finchley. Southgate is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Southgate is one of the places in Barnet where we make loft storage, and the borough has 41 places on our list.

We work across N14, N11, N21 and N13. We cover homes on streets such as High Street, Station Road and Blagden's Close, along with the roads around them, for loft storage and any of our other fitted furniture. Main roads around Southgate include the A111 and A1004, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. We also cover the places around Southgate: Osidge (1 mile north-west), Brunswick Park (1 mile west), Arnos Grove (1 mile south), New Southgate (1 mile south) and Oakwood (1 mile north). What affects the price in Southgate

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The width and height of the space
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Getting in touch

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Why bespoke in Southgate?

A ready-made cupboard pushed into the eaves can block airflow. We plan the storage around what’s behind the knee wall. That’s important for the health of the loft. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.

Questions we are often asked

Do you make loft storage for homes in Southgate?

Yes, Southgate is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Barnet and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

I live near New Southgate station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Barnet and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

It’s something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so there are no gaps at the sides.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Drawers in the knee wall normally involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Where other trades come in

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Building work to turn a loft into a room

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can use our contact form and we will tell you. Our process from visit to fitting.
