Loft storage in South Lambeth
About our loft storage in South Lambeth
Each eaves cupboard is made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the carcasses and drawers their strength, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It is then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in South Lambeth. If you’re living with no wardrobe that fits under the slope and wasted space behind the knee walls, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
A large number of homes around South Lambeth date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes rarely come with much storage. Fitted storage can turn a hallway recess, a landing or the space under the stairs into somewhere useful. Plasterboard stud walls are common, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board.
A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

How it is made
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be applied once the storage is in place. It is easy to touch up later. Like any new paint, it needs time to cure fully.
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. It goes into the carcasses, the drawers and the shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

Could you do it yourself?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
The problems loft storage solve
The most common reason is wasted space. The low spaces at the edge of a loft room are hard to use. Built-in storage makes that space useful.
These come up often when people first get in touch:
- Boxes piled on loft boards
- No wardrobe that fits under the slope
- A loft room with too many jobs
- Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
The wider area includes historic houses like Buckingham Palace, about 1.8 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.

FAQs: loft storage in South Lambeth
Is South Lambeth in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London, and South Lambeth is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
I live near Vauxhall station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Do pictures help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It is useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.
How fitting works for loft storage
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.
- To begin, message us from the contact page; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
- Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
- In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
- On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Arranging a design visit
Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.
Storage in South Lambeth homes: local notes
About 46% of the homes in the neighbourhood around South Lambeth went up since 2000, and about 21% before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List has 133 entries within half a mile of the centre of South Lambeth. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Near central London, streets tend to be narrow and busy, so the route from the van to your door is planned beforehand.
If your home is one of the older houses near St Stephen's Church, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Near listed buildings like Christ Church, about 0.5 miles east of the centre of South Lambeth, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
