Practical tips
Getting the most from loft storage starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
- Let us know about parking at the design visit
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
- Note how narrow the loft stairs are
Wiping the fronts with a soft, damp cloth is typically all they need. Avoid scourers and harsh cleaners. Handles and drawer edges pick up marks first.
Sharp edges and heavy boxes can chip a painted edge. Store tools in a box, not loose against the doors. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.
How we make loft storage for Angell Town
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. In Angell Town, it all begins with a design visit. People normally come to us about low eaves that nobody can use and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Walls in a block of flats can be concrete, brick, block or plasterboard, sometimes all in one flat. With purpose-built flats home to most households around Angell Town, we check each wall at the design visit before choosing fixings. On a stud wall, heavier pieces stand on the floor and are tied back.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Your questions about loft storage in Angell Town
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Angell Town?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Is Angell Town in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. Angell Town is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Lambeth and London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Do you do the loft conversion too?
No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.
How long does it take to fit loft storage?
The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Because everything is built in our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We work tidily and keep the stairs and landing as clear as we can.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
What happens on fitting day
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made at our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Where there’s no lift, each section is sized to be carried up the stairs safely. The tightest landing sets the largest piece. The pieces are assembled in the flat.
- You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
- Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
- In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
- On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Ask for a quote
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Boards, parts and paint
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting on site lets the storage be finished alongside the woodwork around it. It is easy to touch up later. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first.
Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF because it is stable and gives a smooth surface for paint. It suits the doors, drawer fronts and panels, where a smooth, even finish matters.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. In a loft room, standard pieces leave awkward gaps under the slope. Bespoke storage follows the angle of the ceiling and fills the knee wall. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece cannot reach. Flats tend to have walls interrupted by doors, radiators and sockets, and standard widths rarely fit between them. Built-in pieces are sized for each stretch of wall.
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Could you do it yourself?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

What else we make in Angell Town
Loft storage for homes in Angell Town
Homes built before 1919 make up about 38% of the housing in the area around Angell Town, with about 19% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Angell Town, Historic England’s list includes Church of St John the Divine (Grade I), about 0.6 miles north, and Christ Church (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles north. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Purpose-built flats are home to about 60% of households in the area around Angell Town, the 2021 Census shows. For a flat, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
If you live in a flat close to Loughborough Junction station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. The wider area includes historic houses such as Buckingham Palace, about 2.6 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If you live near Max Roach Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.
