Ask about loft storage in North Kensington
When is bespoke worth it?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.
How we make loft storage for North Kensington
Dormers are a natural place for shelving or a small desk. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. At the design visit in North Kensington, we’ll look at what fits. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are wasted space behind the knee walls and furniture that can’t get up to the loft.
Where original shutters, doors or panelling survive, they’re worth designing around. Around North Kensington, where homes from before 1919 make up a large share, new storage can be made to sit beside them rather than replace them. Panel details can be drawn to suit the house, and painted to match. For a listed home, fixing into original joinery can need consent, so check first.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Questions from North Kensington
Does a conservation area in or near North Kensington affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Is parking a problem for fitting in North Kensington?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
How long does it take to fit loft storage?
How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is made at our workshop before we arrive. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
Can you get furniture up narrow loft stairs?
We measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft room. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and then assembled in the loft.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.

What prompts loft storage in North Kensington
A new loft conversion often needs storage to finish it. The room is there, but the furniture to fit it is not. Fitted storage finishes the room.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
- A dormer that is not being used
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
If you live in a flat close to Kensal Green station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
What loft storage can’t fix
Some parts of a job need another trade, such as an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Building work to turn a loft into a room
- Adding or replacing insulation
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

From workshop to your room
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

Advice
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Loft walls are rarely straight, and floors are often out of level. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. We scribe our storage to the slopes and walls, and set it level. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
