How we make loft storage for Brompton
Sloping ceilings make standard wardrobes hard to fit. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there’s height and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the room’s height. The design visit in Brompton is where we work it out. People typically come to us about unused space in a dormer and boxes piled on loft boards, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Ceilings and floors in homes built before 1919 are rarely level, and a large share of homes around Brompton are that old. Each piece is scribed and levelled on site so it looks straight in a room that is not. Picture rails, skirting and cornices are worked around rather than removed, and the paint colour is agreed with you.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitted storage in Brompton
In the streets around Brompton, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 69%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 14%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Brompton, Historic England’s list includes Church of Holy Trinity (Grade I), less than half a mile south-east, and Church of St Luke (Grade I), less than half a mile south-west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. More than half of the homes in the streets around Brompton (about 69%) were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Many older terraces have had loft conversions, leaving eaves spaces and slopes that suit fitted storage.
If you live in a flat close to London Victoria station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If your children go to Hellenic College of London or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.

The problems loft storage solve
A loft room used as an office or guest room often needs storage too. Built-in storage under the slopes keeps the room flexible.
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
Close to Burton’s Court? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.
Choosing a carpenter
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- A quote in writing that sets out the job

What happens on fitting day
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- It starts when you get in touch with a few details about the loft.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you.
- A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out.
- We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope.
- We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
How to get a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

What it costs
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- The width and height of the space
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Getting in touch
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Your postcode and the borough
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- How you want to use the space
For a quote for loft storage in Brompton, get in touch through our contact form. Tell us which room it is and roughly what you have in mind, plus any rough sizes. We’ll arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.
Could you do it yourself?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
Questions we are often asked
I live in a flat in Brompton. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to London Victoria station?
Yes, homes across Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Should I send photos?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
