Loft storage for your home in Rainham
How we make loft storage for Rainham
A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Dormers have their own shapes, and walls that are seldom square. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. We will talk through the options in Rainham. Typical reasons to get in touch are a new loft conversion that needs storage and a dormer that isn’t being used; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Rainham, many have had the loft converted, leaving low eaves and sloping ceilings. Those spaces, along with bays and hallways, are where fitted storage can add the most. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Your questions about loft storage in Rainham
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Rainham?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the space. We plan it at the measuring visit.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. Plastering and decorating aren’t part of our work. The furniture itself is spray painted or hand painted.
What do eaves cupboards cost?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, message us from the contact page and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Before and after fitting day
These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:
- Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
- Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents
- Check the route up to the loft
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
Once the fitting is done, the storage is ready to use. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Avoid sticky tape, heavy knocks and harsh cleaners while it hardens.
Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If a door drops or a drawer catches, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us.

Rainham homes and loft storage
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 47% of the housing in the area around Rainham, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The Rainham Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Rainham. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Havering included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Rainham. We go through parking and access during the design visit.
For a flat near Rainham (Essex) station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If you live near Wildspace Conservation Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.
Rainham is about 4 miles north of Romford, in the London Borough of Havering. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Rainham is part of that. Across Havering, we cover Rainham.
Design visits and fitting in RM13 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If your home is on a street such as New Road, Ferry Lane and Wantz Lane, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for loft storage. Nearby, we also make loft storage in South Hornchurch (1 mile north-west), Beam Park (1 mile west), Hornchurch Marshes (1 mile west), Dagenham Green (2 miles west) and Elm Park (2 miles north). Across the rest of Havering, our area takes in Romford (4 miles north), Hornchurch (3 miles north), Gallows Corner (5 miles north), Heath Park (4 miles north), Collier Row (5 miles north) and Upminster (4 miles north-east).
Around Rainham
Around Rainham, we cover homes near The Phoenix pub, The Chafford School and Harris Academy Rainham and the streets around them. Rainham has its own railway station: Rainham (Essex) station. Open spaces near Rainham include Ingrebourne Marshes.
The problems loft storage solve
Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. It keeps the room tidy.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
Near listed buildings like Church of St Helen and St Giles, under half a mile west of the centre of Rainham, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
Flats, conversions and lettings
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it during the design visit.
What it costs
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Doors and drawers, and how many
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.
Before the design visit
These details help when you get in touch:
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Fitting day, step by step
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Interwar houses typically have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Eaves cupboards arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.
- First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store, including the eaves and any dormer.
- We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
- We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a written quote.
- Every part is made in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you.
Preparing the room
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
