Loft storage for your home in Collier Row
How we make loft storage for Collier Row
Sloping ceilings make standard wardrobes hard to fit. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there’s height and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the room’s height. We’ll plan it at the measuring visit in Collier Row. If your home has furniture that can’t get up to the loft and nowhere to store bags and boxes, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a family house, the hall and stairs typically carry the most clutter. With interwar houses, semis and detached homes a large part of the housing around Collier Row, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Collier Row homes and loft storage
In the streets around Collier Row, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 59%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Collier Row, Historic England’s list includes Numbers 215 (Grade II), about 0.6 miles south. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 67% of households in the area around Collier Row live in detached or semi-detached houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
For a family home near Rise Park Infant School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. Hare Hall, about 1.7 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We can’t advise on your lease.
Do you need loft storage in Collier Row?
A boarded loft can be made far more useful with shelving. Storage in a boarded loft keeps everything organised. It is ideal for things you need now and then.
People normally get in touch with us about needs like these:
- A loft room with too many jobs
- Low eaves that nobody can use
- A loft room that still feels unfinished
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
If you live near Raphael Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.
Choosing a carpenter
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
- Have they thought about parking near you?
Flat-pack or bespoke?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Fitting day, step by step
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. It is useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.
- You get in touch and let us know about the loft and the stairs up to it.
- We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
- We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit.

FAQs: loft storage in Collier Row
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Romford station?
Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Collier Row?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
How do you get large pieces into a loft?
We measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft room. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and the pieces are put together in the room.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?
It is something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.
How is loft storage priced?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. We set it all out in a written quote.
Caring for painted furniture
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. A few pointers help:
- Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
- Note how narrow the loft stairs are
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. Keep a note of the colour for later. If anything is not right with the storage, get in touch through our contact form and we will talk it through.
Keep sharp or very heavy items away from the painted fronts. Put tools in a case so they don’t knock the paint. Minor chips can be touched up with the matching colour.
