Loft storage for your home in Hornchurch
Loft storage for homes in Hornchurch
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. In Hornchurch, it all begins with a design visit. Most enquiries start with a dormer that isn’t being used and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Landings in houses from between the wars are often roomier than in a Victorian terrace, which can hold fitted storage for linen and spare bedding. Around Hornchurch, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, it is worth looking up as well as down. If a boiler or cylinder sits there, it keeps its clearances and access.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

Pricing loft storage in Hornchurch
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:
- How big the furniture is
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Parking near your home
- The internal fittings
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that’s part of the price. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.
What we need to know
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Making use of awkward spaces in Hornchurch
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 65% of the housing in the area around Hornchurch, with about 16% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The National Heritage List records 13 entries within half a mile of the centre of Hornchurch. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 54% of households in the streets around Hornchurch, according to Census 2021. A house like that typically has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.
If you live in a period home close to Saint George's Church, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Parish Church of St Andrew, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Close to St. Andrew's Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease.
Before and after fitting day
These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:
- Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
- Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
- Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
- Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. Should you have a question about the storage, tell us about the room on our contact form and we will help.
Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If something stops working smoothly, fill in our short enquiry form and describe it.
Questions we’re often asked
Can you make loft storage for a home in Hornchurch?
Yes. Hornchurch is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Havering and London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Emerson Park station?
Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.
From workshop to your room
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.
- First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store.
- We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
- The design is agreed and a written quote follows, with the finish set out.
- Every part is made in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
- We carry it up, fit it and check every door and drawer with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
How to get a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.
