Goodmayes Loft Storage
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make loft storage for homes in Goodmayes, each designed at a visit to your home.
- Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
- A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
- Boxes piled on loft boards
Loft storage in Goodmayes
Loft storage in Goodmayes: what you get
The space behind the knee wall normally has insulation and ventilation to think about. We design the storage so it does not block airflow or crush insulation. If you have concerns about what’s behind the eaves, ask the people who did the conversion. When we visit in Goodmayes, we’ll see what’s there. If your home has clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Around Goodmayes, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Flats, leases and landlords
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.

How it’s made
Pull-out drawers
A run of drawers along the knee wall can work like a long chest. The top can be a surface for books or lamps. We agree the layout at the measuring visit.
Hand-painted finish
Some people prefer a hand-painted finish for its softer look. It can be applied on site, in a colour agreed with you. It can be matched to the room’s woodwork.
FAQs: loft storage in Goodmayes
Is Goodmayes in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London, and Goodmayes is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Goodmayes?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
What do eaves cupboards cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Drawers in the knee wall usually involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Making use of awkward spaces in Goodmayes
In the area around Goodmayes, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 36%) and before 1919 (about 35%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Goodmayes include Church of All Saints (Grade II), under half a mile south-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Redbridge sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking during the design visit.
If you live near South Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. Living in a block of flats near Goodmayes station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. The wider area includes historic houses like Eastbury Manor House, about 2.1 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.

What we do not do
It is worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Structural changes, such as cutting into rafters or joists
- Building Regulations approval for a conversion
- Building work to turn a loft into a room
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
From workshop to your room
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.
- You tell us about the loft room.
- We come to measure and go through the design and finish.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
- The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
- Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.
Before we arrive
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
Arranging a design visit
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
