About our loft storage in Slade Green
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. We do not carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. In Slade Green, it all begins with a design visit. If you are living with a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and an empty dormer that could hold shelves, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Homes in an area like Slade Green can come from many different periods, so the tricky spaces vary too: a bay, the space under the stairs, a hallway recess or the eaves of a converted loft. Eaves cupboards are designed for the space you have. Meters, fuse boards and boilers keep the access they need.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Honest limits
Not everything around loft storage is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Approval for structural changes
- Altering the structure of the loft
- New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

What it is made from
Plinths and scribe strips
The floor in a loft room is rarely perfectly level. We set the storage level on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the doors and drawers run true.
Pull-out drawers
A run of drawers along the knee wall can work like a long chest. The top can act as a shelf. The design visit settles the mix.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Storage in Slade Green homes: local notes
In the streets around Slade Green, the largest groups of homes date from between 1973 and 1999 (about 27%) and the years since 2000 (about 27%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The Oak Road Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Slade Green. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 37% of households in the area around Slade Green live in terraced houses, the 2021 Census shows. Many London terraces have converted lofts with eaves that can take storage; we build once the loft is converted or boarded.
If you live near Braeburn Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. For a family home near St. Paul's (Slade Green) Church of England Primary School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. If your home is one of the older houses near St. Augustine's Church, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Fitting day, step by step
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch and tell us about the loft and the stairs up to it.
- We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
- We send a quote in writing.
- Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
Questions we’re often asked
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Slade Green?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you cover homes near Slade Green station?
Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. Hanging goes where there’s height, with shelves where it is low. It is cut to fit the ceiling and walls exactly.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so there are no gaps at the sides.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
