Wapping Loft Storage

For homes in Wapping, we make loft storage from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Each piece is finished by spray or by hand, in the colour you choose.

  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs

Loft storage in Wapping: what you get

A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. In Wapping, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. People usually come to us about furniture that can’t get up to the loft and a dormer that isn’t being used; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

A hall in a home built since 2000 is often compact, with several doors leading off it, which leaves little wall for storage. Around Wapping, many homes were built since 2000, so that is worth planning for. A shallow cupboard can take coats, shoes and the vacuum cleaner without blocking a door.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Flats, leases and landlords

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.

Pricing loft storage in Wapping

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Parking near your home
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Before the design visit

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Questions we are often asked

Do you make loft storage for homes in Wapping?

Yes, Wapping is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

How do you fit loft storage in a flat in Wapping?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.

Do you do the electrics?

No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Tips worth knowing

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Check the route up to the loft
  • Note the things that need a home in the loft
  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom

Before we leave, we check every door and drawer with you. If there’s an access door to the eaves, we make sure it opens fully. That way, everything works as planned.

Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. Keep the room ventilated. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

When is bespoke worth it?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.

Loft storage in Wapping: local notes

In the neighbourhood around Wapping, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 37%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 29%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List has 112 entries within half a mile of the centre of Wapping. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and eaves cupboards can be designed to work around them. About 37% of homes in the neighbourhood around Wapping were built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Where a newer house has had its loft converted, the eaves and slopes can take fitted storage; we build once the loft is converted or boarded.

Close to William Curtis Ecological Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. If you live in a flat close to Wapping station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If you live in a period home close to St Peter's, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

How fitting day works

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made at our workshop come in next. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Other trades handle any new sockets or plumbing.

  1. You tell us about your converted or boarded loft, including the eaves and any dormer.
  2. We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
  3. We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a quote in writing, with the finish set out.
  4. Every part is made in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
  5. The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.

Preparing the room

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Arranging a design visit
