Bespoke Kitchens in Wapping
Thinking about bespoke kitchens in Wapping? We start with a design visit and a quote in writing, before anything is made.
- Extra cupboard space
- Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
- A larder for food and small appliances
Bespoke kitchens designed for your room
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
About our bespoke kitchens in Wapping
A larder cupboard can hold more than a run of wall units. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, planned around what you store. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts tricky space to work. People usually come to us about a kitchen planned around your appliances and a layout for a small or awkward room, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
In newer homes, the washing machine is often in the kitchen, with no utility room, so laundry and cleaning things need a place in the kitchen. Many homes around Wapping date from 2000 onwards. Plumbing for appliances is for your plumber.
We write quotes in plain English. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

What happens on fitting day
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.
- You get in touch and describe the kitchen you want.
- We visit to measure and talk through the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
- A quote in writing follows, with the finish agreed.
- We make the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which suits kitchens and takes paint well, and birch plywood.
- The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
- Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician; new paintwork needs gentle use while it cures.
Preparing the room
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Getting a quote
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, drop us a line using the contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?
Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper and they suit many newer homes. Where walls lean and floors slope, they can be hard to fit neatly. Bespoke is a bigger investment, built around the space you have. Newer homes often have compact rooms where standard furniture leaves tricky gaps, while fitted furniture is made to the room. It works around service boxing too.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Wapping
Homes built since 2000 make up about 37% of the housing in the area around Wapping, with about 29% built between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The Wapping Pierhead Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Wapping. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Around a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Wapping (about 37%) were built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Kitchens in homes built since 2000 are often open-plan, with stud walls, so wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.
If your home is one of the older houses near St Peter's, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. For families living near St Mellitus College, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.
Questions we are often asked
I live near Wapping station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
How much time does fitting need?
It depends on the kitchen. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
What prompts bespoke kitchens in Wapping
A painted kitchen can be refreshed later, which appeals if you are staying put. Hand painting is simple to touch in or refresh over the years.
A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

- More storage in a small kitchen
- A kitchen for a room that is not square
