Loft Storage in Wennington

In Wennington, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • Space under the eaves going to waste

Loft storage designed for your room

Loft storage in Wennington: what you get

Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. Wardrobes under the slope, drawers in the knee wall and shelves in the dormer can all work together. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. For a home in Wennington, it’s planned around your things. We make eaves cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are space under the eaves going to waste and no wardrobe that fits under the slope.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Wennington, loft conversions are common, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings. Fitted storage can make use of the eaves, the bay or the hall. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

FAQs: loft storage in Wennington

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Wennington?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Wennington?

Yes, Wennington is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can require listed building consent for works that affect their character.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Loft storage for homes in Wennington

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 47% of the housing in the streets around Wennington, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Wennington, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Mary and St Peter (Grade II*), less than half a mile west, and Lennard Arms Inn (Grade II), less than half a mile east. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 40% of households in the neighbourhood around Wennington live in detached or semi-detached houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

If you live in a period home close to St Mary and St Peter's Church, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. Close to Wildspace Conservation Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

From workshop to your room

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Preparing the room

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

How to get a quote

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Advice

What affects the cost of loft storage

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • Parking near your home
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • The width and height of the space

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Before the design visit

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What the furniture needs to hold

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Looking after your furniture

These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:

  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Check the route up to the loft
  • Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
  • Choose a calm colour for the loft

Wiping the fronts with a soft, damp cloth is usually all they need. Dry them afterwards, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents. Handles and drawer edges pick up marks first.

Sharp edges and heavy boxes can chip a painted edge. Put tools in a case so they do not knock the paint. Minor chips can be touched up with the matching colour.

The problems loft storage solve

A sloping ceiling makes a standard wardrobe impossible. Bespoke wardrobes follow the slope. It is often the main reason people get in touch about a loft bedroom.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • Boxes piled on loft boards
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope
  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft

For a flat near Rainham (Essex) station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Before you choose who makes it

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Ready-made furniture has to come up the loft stairs in one piece or flat-packed. Our storage is made in sections sized for the route. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
