Wall Beds in Gallows Corner

In Gallows Corner, we design wall beds around the room you actually have. Your wall bed is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.

  • More floor space in a studio flat
  • A home office that also sleeps guests
  • A flexible room for a growing family

Wall beds designed for your room

How it’s made

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which matters for the parts that carry the bed. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

About our wall beds in Gallows Corner

The cabinet is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Doors on the front can look like a run of cupboards, so the room doesn’t read as a bedroom by day. Most enquiries start with more floor space in a studio flat and a proper bed instead of a sofa bed, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Around Gallows Corner, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. That’s where wall beds earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Why bespoke in Gallows Corner?

A wall bed is fixed to the house, so it stays when you move. How long you will be in the home is worth weighing up before you decide. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Why us?

  • Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
  • Work across the whole of London

How fitting works for wall beds

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is typically more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. We start with how the room is used and who’ll sleep there.
  2. We visit to measure up and look at what the wall is made of, as the bed must be fixed securely.
  3. We send a written quote for the bed cabinet and storage.
  4. We build and finish everything in our workshop.
  5. We fit it in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies.

Preparing the room

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are

  • Plastering or decorating the room
  • Choosing a mattress for you
  • Electrical work for reading lights

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Moisture-resistant MDF

  • Fold-down bed mechanism
  • Shelves or a desk alongside
  • Hand-painted finish

FAQs: wall beds in Gallows Corner

I live near Gidea Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room.

Do you make wall beds for homes in Gallows Corner?

Yes, we work across Havering, Gallows Corner included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

The furniture is built in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route along with the room itself.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.

How are wall beds priced?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, storage and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Will you provide a mattress for the bed?

The mechanism maker sets which mattresses suit the bed by size, depth and weight. We can talk you through what the mechanism allows, so the mattress you choose fits.

What it costs

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • How big the furniture is
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Getting in touch

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, use our contact form.

Wall beds in Gallows Corner: local notes

About 37% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Gallows Corner went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 37% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Gallows Corner include The Royal Liberty School (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. All of London, Havering included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Gallows Corner fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. How the van gets to your door is planned during the design visit.

If you live in a flat close to Gidea Park station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If you live near Raphael Park, keeping wall beds off the window wall keeps the room bright. If your home is one of the older houses near St Michael and All Angels Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.
