Questions from Ardleigh Green

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Ardleigh Green?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London, and Ardleigh Green is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Gidea Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.

How do you stop equipment overheating in a TV unit?

Ventilation is designed in wherever equipment sits. Each box should have its own space and you can check the maker’s guidance on clearances.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.

TV and media units in Ardleigh Green: what you get

Everything starts with the screen. We plan the space around the TV you have, or the one you expect to buy, with a margin so it is not a tight squeeze. Viewing height matters too: it should suit where you sit, not just the wall. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall and somewhere to keep games tidy.

Around Ardleigh Green, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the front room may have a bay window at one end and a chimney breast on the side wall, and that layout shapes where TV and media units work best. Walls are often truer than in older houses, but they’re still measured carefully and scribed where they wander.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Caring for painted furniture

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Note the size of each box and speaker
  • Think about the viewing height from your sofa
  • Let us know about access early
  • Think about whether you’ll upgrade the screen

Painted finishes feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. At first, lift boxes and speakers into place rather than pushing them.

Leave any new socket or wiring work to your electrician, and do not daisy-chain adaptors.

Why bespoke in Ardleigh Green?

Bought units come in the maker’s finishes. Ours are painted in a colour agreed with you, by spray or by hand. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.

Why choose us

  • Built around your room
  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement
  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home

Take a look at bespoke vs off-the-shelf or what to look for in a quote.

What happens on fitting day

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You contact us with a short note about the room and the unit you have in mind, including the size of the screen.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it is useful to have them in mind early.
  3. You receive a written quote setting out the unit, materials and finish.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the measurements we took, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The unit is fitted in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.

Before fitting day

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

Arranging a design visit

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Advice

Pricing TV and media units in Ardleigh Green

Several things affect the price:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • The internal fittings
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.

Helping us understand the room

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit. To get started, message us from the contact page with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Boards, parts and paint

Plinths and scribe strips

The plinth raises the unit and hides a sloping floor. It can line up with the skirting.

Spray-painted finish

Because it’s sprayed before fitting, the unit comes painted. Give the paint time to cure fully.
