TV and media units in Downe
If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan the panels and shelves around the bracket position. If the TV stands on the unit instead, the top is sized and positioned for it, with the cables kept out of sight. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about somewhere to keep games tidy and cables trailing across the wall.
In an area like Downe, where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, many homes have had the front and back rooms knocked together. The result is often a long room with a chimney breast, a good spot for TV and media units. At the design visit we plan any cable routes and ventilation the room needs.
We write quotes in plain English. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

Your questions about TV and media units in Downe
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Chelsfield station?
Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Does a conservation area in or near Downe affect fitted furniture?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
How long does it take to fit a TV unit?
The fitting depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The unit is made at our workshop first.
How do I get started?
Simply get in touch through our contact form. Rough measurements and a few photos help, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
How do you hide the TV cables?
Cable routes are built into the design. Where cables reach the wall depends on the sockets.

Some equipment needs line of sight for its remote.
Moisture-resistant MDF
There is no grain to show through the paint, so a painted TV unit looks calm and even. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice.
Pricing TV and media units in Downe
Several things affect the price:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Parking near your home
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Before the design visit
To give us a picture of the room, it is useful to include:
- Your postcode and the borough
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- The type of home and how the room is reached
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, message us from the contact page. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
How fitting works for TV and media units
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.
- To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The unit is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable openings and vents cut in.
- We fit it in your home and leave the cable routes ready for you to use.
Preparing the room
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
Getting a quote
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Advice
Also in Downe
Built-in living-room furniture in Downe
About 31% of the homes in the area around Downe went up between 1973 and 1999, and about 27% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The Downe Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Downe. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Bromley are set locally. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know what the parking is like at the design visit.
For an older house near St Mary's Church, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. The wider area includes historic houses like Down House, about 0.6 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. Close to South Park? TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear.
