About our wall beds in Edmonton
The bed mechanism must be fixed securely, exactly as its maker specifies, to a wall and floor that can take the load. We check the wall and floor at the measuring visit as solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard all need different fixings. If your home has a guest room that sits empty most of the time and a living room with a bed that folds away, that is what wall beds are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Fitted furniture in a bedroom has to work with how you use the room. In Edmonton, as anywhere in London, we start by asking what the room is for. Then the layout, doors and inside fittings follow. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted, in a colour agreed with you.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

FAQs: wall beds in Edmonton
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Edmonton?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.
Will a conservation area stop me having wall beds fitted in Edmonton?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Do you make good the walls afterwards?
No. We do not plaster or decorate, so any work on the walls is for a plasterer or decorator. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.

Do you need wall beds in Edmonton?
Some want a room that can change as the family does. We often hear from people who want a playroom or study that can still sleep guests when it’s needed.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Room for a desk and a guest bed
- A bed that fills a little-used room
- A flexible room for a growing family
- A proper bed instead of a sofa bed
If you live near Pymmes Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Have they thought about parking near you?
What happens on fitting day
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturdays can be arranged.
- First, you tell us about the room and how you’d like it to work.
- We come to measure, look at the wall and floor, and go through the layout with you. We also check there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinet, the storage and the finish, for you to look over.
- The bed cabinet and any shelves or desk are built in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies. The finish is sprayed in our workshop or painted by hand on site.
Before fitting day
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
Starting with a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Flats, leases and landlords
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we have measured the way in.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
What affects the cost of wall beds
Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, use our contact form.
Helping us understand the room
A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- The type of home and how the room is reached
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.
Edmonton homes and wall beds
In the area around Edmonton, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 29%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 27%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The National Heritage List records 13 entries within half a mile of the centre of Edmonton. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. Where a home in Edmonton is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that at the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Bruce Castle, about 1.8 miles south. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go. For a flat near Edmonton Green station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.
