TV and media units in Finsbury
We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in the colour you prefer. We work across London, including Finsbury, after a design visit and a quote in writing. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about equipment with nowhere proper to go and leads that show from every angle.
A large share of the homes around Finsbury date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes seldom have fitted storage in the living room. TV and media units can be planned around where the sockets and aerial points already are, with cable routes built in. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, which is fine for fitted furniture when the fixings are right.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Most stands have a cable hole or two at the back, but the wires still show between the stand, the wall and the screen. A built-in unit has routes planned through it. Big standalone units can dominate a compact room, whereas fitted pieces painted to suit the walls sit back into the space.
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.

TV and media units in Finsbury: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Finsbury were built since 2000 (about 36%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. Within a mile of the centre of Finsbury, 30 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. About 36% of homes in the area around Finsbury were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Newer homes typically have plasterboard stud walls and open-plan rooms, often with no chimney breast, so TV and media units are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor.
For an older house near Jewin Welsh Presbyterian Chapel, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. Living in a block of flats near Old Street station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If you live near Artillery Ground, TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear.

Questions from Finsbury
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Finsbury?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Finsbury?
Yes, we work across Islington, Finsbury included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
How do I get a quote for TV and media units in Finsbury?
Just message us from the contact page. Rough sizes and a few photos help, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Boards, parts and paint
Birch plywood
Long shelves under a screen need to stay straight. Birch plywood, sized for the span, keeps it flat.
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting is done in the workshop, for a smooth, factory-like finish that suits a modern TV wall.
How fitting day works
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Corners and door frames are covered as well. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit, and where the sockets are now.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go.
- You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish.
- The unit is made at our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and ready for your equipment. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Before fitting day
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

What affects the price in Finsbury
Several things affect the price:
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit, then set it out in the quote.
Helping us understand the room
Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, get in touch through our contact form. The written quote follows the visit.
Before and after fitting day
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Check each box’s guidance on ventilation and clearances
- Count your equipment, including routers and consoles
- Note the screen size you have or plan to buy
- Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
Painted finishes feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. At first, lift boxes and speakers into place rather than pushing them, so the paint is not scuffed.
Keep heavy speakers and amplifiers on lower shelves, with the weight spread across shelves.
