Walk-in wardrobes in Ealing
Walk-in wardrobes in Ealing: local notes
In the area around Ealing, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 56%) and the years since 2000 (about 19%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Ealing is partly covered by the Ealing Green Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home in Ealing is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Pitzhanger Manor House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. Pitzhanger Manor, about 0.1 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If your children go to Ealing Independent College or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
Ealing is one of London’s 33 local authority areas. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Ealing included. We cover places right across the rest of London, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.

About our walk-in wardrobes in Ealing
Beyond the hanging, drawers, shelves and shoe storage do a lot of the work. Folded knitwear sits well on shelves, smaller things go in drawers and shoes can have racks or shelves of their own. A dressing table with a mirror can be built in where there is space. Most enquiries start with a dressing table with drawers and a mirror and proper shoe storage, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Older bedrooms usually have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of homes around Ealing are that old. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Original mouldings are worked around rather than removed, so the furniture suits the house.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Before and after fitting day
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Measure how much long hanging you need
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Think about whether you want doors
Let air move through the walk-in wardrobe, especially if it is on an external wall. Leave a little space behind hanging clothes, so air can circulate.
Talk to your electrician early about lighting. New lights and wiring are for them, and the units can be designed around the lighting.
What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix
It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Plastering, decorating or flooring
- Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
- Curing damp in the walls
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What affects the price in Ealing
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- The width and height of the space
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Helping us understand the room
When you contact us, these help most:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Is Ealing in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?
Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Ealing?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we quote once we’ve measured. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
How long does fitting take?
How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk it through at the design visit.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
- At the design visit we agree the layout and check how the units will reach the room. It helps to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- The units are brought in, assembled and set level. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
