Bedford Park Window Seats
Planning window seats for a home in Bedford Park? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a written quote.
- No comfortable place to sit in the light
- A room with shutters and sashes that deserves a proper seat
- Off-the-shelf pieces that never quite fit the window
Window seats designed for your room
About our window seats in Bedford Park
Lots of period homes across London have sash windows. A seat beneath one needs to sit below the cill so the window still opens and closes easily. Where there are working shutters, the seat must leave room for them to fold back. We check all of this during the design visit in Bedford Park. Typical reasons to get in touch are a radiator that makes the space hard to use and nowhere to keep blankets, toys or books, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Bedford Park, under-stairs cupboards in older terraces often house the meters or the fuse board. Meter readers and engineers need to get to them, so the design keeps them accessible. Bays and sash windows in period houses are natural spots for a window seat.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Flats, leases and landlords
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.
What it is made from
Doors and drawer fronts
We make the fronts from moisture-resistant MDF and finish them in the colour you choose. Panelled fronts can echo the woodwork in a period room. The lines are kept neat and even.
Pull-out drawers
Drawers can run the full width or be combined with a lid. Where there’s a radiator, the drawers are planned around it. The design visit settles the mix.
Common questions about window seats
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Bedford Park?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.
I live in a flat in Bedford Park. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Can you build a seat beneath sash windows?
Yes. The seat is set below the cill so the window can still open and close. If there are working shutters, we leave room for them to fold back. We check all of this at the measuring visit.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it helps to be around at the end.
How fitting works for window seats
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the window and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Hand painting, if that is your finish, can follow the fitting.
- You contact us with some details about the bay or recess.
- We visit to measure the angles of the bay and the floor, and discuss the design.
- We send a written quote.
- In our workshop we make each section of the seat from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the seat is set level and scribed to follow the walls and floor.
How to prepare
- Empty the space we will be working in
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
How to get a quote
It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

What else we make in Bedford Park
Window seats for homes in Bedford Park
About 55% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Bedford Park went up before 1919, and about 20% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The centre of Bedford Park is within about a quarter of a mile of the Bedford Park Conservation Area. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Around Bedford Park, about 55% of homes date from before 1919, well above the figure for Ealing as a whole, about 28%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of window seats.
Close to Turnham Green? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and window seats can give those things a place. If you live in a period home close to St Peter's, a bay or a sash window is a natural place for a window seat. For a family home near Southfield Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.
Bedford Park is part of the London Borough of Ealing, about 2 miles west of Ealing. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Bedford Park included. We cover places right across Ealing.
We cover every part of W4, W3 and W12. Our area takes in homes on streets like Meon Road, Kent Road and Bath Road, whether you want window seats or another piece made for the room. Nearby, we also make window seats in Acton Green (1 mile west), Acton Vale (1 mile north-east), Acton (1 mile north), South Acton (1 mile west) and Hanger Hill (2 miles north-west). We also make window seats in nearby places like Ealing (2 miles west), Southall (5 miles west), Greenford (5 miles north-west), Northolt (6 miles north-west), Northfields (2 miles west) and South Ealing (2 miles west).
Local landmarks in Bedford Park
Around Bedford Park, we cover homes near Ark Soane Academy, The Duke Of Sussex Public House and Leap Service - the National Autistics Society. There’s a railway station in Bedford Park itself: South Acton station. Well-known places in the area include Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital (1.5 miles north-east) and Livat Hammersmith (1.5 miles east).
What we don’t do
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:
- Plastering and decorating around the seat
- Any change to radiator pipes, which needs a plumber
- Work on the window frame or glass
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

Is bespoke worth it?
With a ready-made bench, the colour is the maker’s choice. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it sits with the skirting, the shutters or the walls. Alcoves and recesses in period houses are rarely a standard width or depth, so ready-made units rarely fill them properly. Furniture made for the space fills it.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It helps to talk about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.
