Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Bermondsey
Walk-in wardrobes in Bermondsey: what you get
You do not need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. A corner or one end of a large bedroom can become a dressing area, either open to the room or behind doors. Any new partition wall is for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. If you’re living with room for two wardrobes in one space and setting aside a corner of a large bedroom, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.
In a block, a bedroom wall may be shared with the neighbours or the corridor, and those walls can be solid or plasterboard. Around Bermondsey, where most households live in purpose-built flats, we choose fixings that suit the wall and keep drilling to what’s needed. Tall pieces are always fixed back.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Practical tips
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Make sure walls are dry before units go in
- Think about long versus double hanging
- Let air move through the space
- Line up your electrician for any new lights
Keep the room ventilated, particularly on a cooler external wall. Leave a little space behind hanging clothes, so air can circulate.
Deal with any damp before the units go in. External walls can be colder and damper, and ventilation inside the units helps.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Modular units are made in fixed sizes, so the space above and at the ends is often wasted. We can build right up to the ceiling and from wall to wall, which can add a lot of storage. In a flat, walls are often broken up by radiators, doors and sockets, so off-the-shelf widths rarely fill the gaps. Built-in pieces are sized for each stretch of wall.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Bermondsey
How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Bermondsey?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. Walk-in wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?
How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We will design around them.
Do photos help?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
How it is made
Spray-painted finish
We spray paint in the workshop for a smooth, factory-like finish.
Shelves
We plan shelving for knitwear, bags and things you use less often. Spans and depths are sized so they don’t sag.
Fitting day, step by step
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.

Bedroom storage in Bermondsey
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Bermondsey were built since 2000 (about 33%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 23%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. If you live in a period home close to St Mary Magdalen Bermondsey, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Roman Catholic Church of The Most Holy Trinity, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Mansion House, about 1.3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
