Walk-in wardrobes for your home in South Bermondsey

Walk-in wardrobes in South Bermondsey: what you get

With a walk-in wardrobe, clothes, shoes and bags have a space to themselves. It can be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is made in our workshop and fitted to the room, so it follows the walls and sits level. If you are living with a calmer, clearer bedroom and shelves for shoes and bags, walk-in wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Bedrooms in flats often share a wall with the next flat or the communal corridor, and those walls can be solid or plasterboard. Around South Bermondsey, where most households live in purpose-built flats, fixings are chosen with neighbours in mind as well as strength. Tall pieces are always fixed back.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Building work to create the room
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Electrical work in the room

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it’s made from

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Shoe storage
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Dressing table
  • Hanging, shelves and drawers

Flats, leases and landlords

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in South Bermondsey

I live near South Bermondsey station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Southwark and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room.

How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in South Bermondsey?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Walk-in wardrobes are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

What happens at the design visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.

Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 34% of the housing in the area around South Bermondsey, with about 23% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of South Bermondsey, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Augustine (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-west, and Eveline Lowe School (Grade II), under half a mile west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. About 71% of households in the area around South Bermondsey live in purpose-built flats, based on Census 2021. For a flat, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

Close to Paterson Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. For families living near Ilderton Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Fitting day, step by step

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Loading near a block of flats can take some planning, so details of bays, permits or a loading area help. The sections are assembled in the flat and fixed to suit the walls. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
