FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Canning Town
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Custom House station?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Canning Town?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and Canning Town is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.
Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?
Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. We design the units to let air move and walls should be dry before we fit.
Is it better to have doors or open storage?
That depends on how you like to use the space. Doors, open rails and shelves can all be combined, and we will talk it through at the design visit.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
Getting it in is planned at the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Walk-in wardrobes in Canning Town
Ventilation matters in a room full of clothes, particularly on an external wall, which can be colder than internal walls. Good ventilation helps avoid condensation and mould, so we allow for it in the design. If you’re living with storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe and a dressing area in part of a bedroom, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Many homes around Canning Town have been built since 2000, and newer bedrooms are often compact, with plasterboard walls. Heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor, rather than relying on the board alone. Where a small built-in cupboard came with the home, it can be reworked as part of the design.
The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

When is bespoke worth it?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
On a cooler external wall, moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice, alongside good ventilation.
Hanging rails
Two rails stacked one above the other make good use of the height.

Walk-in wardrobes in Canning Town: local notes
In the neighbourhood around Canning Town, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 38%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 24%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Canning Town, Historic England’s list includes Warehouse K (Grade II), under half a mile south, and Warehouse W (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Fewer homes around Canning Town date from before 1919 than across Newham: about 14%, against about 37%, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We check what the walls are made of during the design visit, as they vary with the age of the home.
If your children go to Rosetta Primary School or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. The wider area includes historic houses such as Queen's House, about 2.7 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. If you live near Keir Hardie Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

What it costs
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The internal fittings
- The width and height of the space
- How square the room is
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
Before the design visit
When you contact us, these help most:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Your postcode and the borough
- The type of home and how the room is reached
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, get in touch through our contact form.
What happens on fitting day
In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.
