About our walk-in wardrobes in Stratford
Good light helps you see colours and find things. Wiring for new lights is a job for your electrician. We can plan the units so there’s space for the lighting you want and agree the details when we measure. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are long and double hanging planned around your clothes and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror.
Stud walls in newer homes can carry pipes and cables, so we check before fixing into them. Many homes around Stratford date from 2000 onwards, so this check is routine. Tall pieces are tied into the studs, not just the board.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
A bespoke walk-in wardrobe takes more planning than buying a system, and it costs more. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. Separate ready-made pieces can make an open-plan room feel unplanned, while fitted furniture can give the space structure.
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

From workshop to your room
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next, one at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.
- You get in touch and describe the room.
- At the design visit we agree the layout and check how the units will reach the room. It helps to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- We send a quote in writing.
- Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
How to prepare
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Stratford
Homes built since 2000 make up about 55% of the housing in the streets around Stratford, with about 19% built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The National Heritage List records 19 entries within half a mile of the centre of Stratford. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Newham is no exception. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the design visit.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like The Theatre Royal, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live in a period home close to Church of St John the Evangelist, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Stratford is about 2 miles south-east of Plaistow, within the London Borough of Newham. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Stratford is part of that. In Newham, Stratford is one of the places we cover.
In E15, E20 and E3, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets like Gay Road, Cam Road and Eve Road, whether you want walk-in wardrobes or another piece made for the room. We also cover the places around Stratford: Maryland (1 mile east), East Village (1 mile north-west), Temple Mills (1 mile north-west), West Ham (1 mile south-east) and Hackney Wick (1 mile west). Elsewhere in Newham, we also cover Plaistow (2 miles south-east), Canning Town (2 miles south-east), East Ham (3 miles east), Upton Park (2 miles east), Greengate (2 miles south-east) and Plashet (2 miles east). As one of the bigger places in Newham, Stratford is covered for all of our fitted furniture.
Near you in Stratford
The streets we cover here include those near The Two Puddings pub, Sarah Bonnell School and Carpenters Primary School, among other places. Stratford has its own railway station: Stratford (London) station. Nearby you will also find V&A East (0.5 miles west) and Stratford Centre (within half a mile south-east). For a walk, there is Old Ford Island.
Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?
The most common reason is simply running out of wardrobe space. Clothes are squashed together and shoes pile up. A walk-in wardrobe gives everything room.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
- Room for two wardrobes in one space
- Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom
- Somewhere to sit and get ready
For a flat near Stratford (London) station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.
Choosing a carpenter
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- How parking will work on your street
Questions we are often asked
Does a conservation area in or near Stratford affect fitted furniture?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Stratford?
Yes. Stratford is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.
What finishes do you offer?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?
In many cases, yes. It depends on the room’s shape and where the door and window sit. We plan it at the design visit.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
We plan the route in during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
