Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Plashet
Walk-in wardrobes in Plashet
Hanging space is the heart of most walk-in wardrobes. Long hanging suits coats and dresses, and two rails stacked one above the other suit shirts, jackets and trousers. The balance of long and double hanging is based on your clothes. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a built-in dressing table and a walk-in wardrobe in a box room.
Sash windows are common in Victorian and Edwardian houses, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. For one of the older homes that make up a large share of the housing around Plashet, the layout lets the sash open fully and keeps the light unblocked. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

From workshop to your room
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.

Advice
Walk-in wardrobes in Plashet: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 71% of the housing in the streets around Plashet, with about 13% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Plashet. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. Around Plashet, about 71% of homes date from before 1919, well above the figure for Newham as a whole, about 37%, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That makes period details like uneven walls, alcoves and picture rails more likely to shape the design.
If you live in a period home close to Church of St Barnabas, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near West Ham Park, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.

Boards, parts and paint
Shelves
Upper shelves are good for cases and seasonal clothes, with everyday items lower down.
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters, which suits drawer boxes and shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
The problems walk-in wardrobes solve
Some homes have a small room that never quite earns its keep. Fitted out as a walk-in wardrobe, it becomes part of everyday life than keeping a bed in it.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- The right mix of long and short hanging
- A built-in dressing table
- A dressing area in part of a bedroom
- Somewhere for shoes to live
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Passmore Edwards Library, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Before you choose who makes it
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Will the quote be in writing?
Questions we’re often asked
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Plashet?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Plashet?
Yes, we work across Newham, Plashet included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?
Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. The design allows air to circulate and walls should be dry before we fit.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.
Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?
That depends on how you like to use the space. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we will talk it through at the design visit.
What affects the price in Plashet
What you pay depends on:
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- The overall size of the piece
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.
What to send when you contact us
These details help when you get in touch:
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- How you want to use the space
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
