About our walk-in wardrobes in City of Westminster
With a walk-in wardrobe, clothes, shoes and bags have a space to themselves. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. We make it all in our workshop and fit it in your home, so it follows the walls and sits level. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom and separate space for two people’s clothes.
Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. If your home is one of the many around City of Westminster built before 1919, the layout lets the sash open fully and keeps the light unblocked. Doors on fitted pieces are hung to clear the bed and any radiator.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Fitting day, step by step
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Hand painting, if that is your finish, can follow the fitting.
- You tell us about the room.
- We come to measure and discuss the design.
- A written quote follows.
- We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
- We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.
How to prepare
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Walk-in wardrobes in City of Westminster: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around City of Westminster were built before 1919 (about 46%) and since 2000 (about 19%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List has 776 entries within half a mile of the centre of City of Westminster. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Streets close to central London are often narrow and busy, with loading bays in short supply, so carrying the sections from the van to the door takes planning, particularly for larger pieces.
If your children go to St Vincent's Catholic Primary School or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. For a flat near Bond Street station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Why bespoke in City of Westminster?
Standard systems come in set widths and heights and rarely reach the ceiling. We can build right up to the ceiling and from wall to wall, which can add a lot of storage. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines, with panels and details to suit the house.
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Tips worth knowing
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. A few pointers help:
- Deal with any damp walls first
- Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
- Count your coats and long garments
- Wipe painted surfaces with a soft, damp cloth
We adjust doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Houses move a little with the seasons, so hinges allow small adjustments later.
Before the design visit, sort through your clothes. The amount of long hanging, double hanging, shelving and shoe storage depends on what you own, so it is worth having a sort-out first.
Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in City of Westminster
Some homes have a small room that never quite earns its keep. Turning it into a dressing room can make better use of it than keeping a bed in it.
If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:
- Somewhere for shoes to live
- Somewhere to sit and get ready
- Room for a growing wardrobe
- Long and double hanging planned around your clothes
Handel Hendrix House, about 0.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Whether you will get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- Have they thought about parking near you?
What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
To work out the quote, we look at:
- The internal fittings
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How big the furniture is
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Helping us understand the room
Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:
- How you want to use the space
- Your postcode and the borough
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- The type of home and how the room is reached
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a written quote.
Questions from City of Westminster
I live in a flat in City of Westminster. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Walk-in wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
My house in City of Westminster is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
How long does fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll talk it through at the design visit.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Is a box room big enough for a walk-in wardrobe?
In many cases, yes. It depends on the room’s shape and where the door and window sit, so we work it out when we measure.
What happens at the measuring visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.
