Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Paddington Green
A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are moving wardrobes out of the bedroom and room for two wardrobes in one space.
In a compact bedroom, the wall above the door and over the bed is often unused. With most households around Paddington Green in purpose-built flats, fitted furniture that bridges those spaces is worth considering. Top cupboards suit things you need only now and then.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

- Separate space for two people’s clothes

Looking after your furniture
The finish lasts best with a little care. These practical tips help:
- Talk to your electrician early about lighting
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
- Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can be touched in. A spray finish gives a smooth surface that wipes clean.
If the room is on an external wall, have any damp sorted first. Cooler external walls can lead to condensation, and ventilation inside the units helps.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit.
Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Paddington Green
How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Paddington Green?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. Walk-in wardrobes are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Does a conservation area in or near Paddington Green affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The size of the room, the layout and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
Fitting day, step by step
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a block without a lift, every section goes up the stairs, so it is sized to be manageable. The stair turns and landings set the limit. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed.

Paddington Green homes and walk-in wardrobes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Paddington Green were built before 1919 (about 44%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 16%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Paddington Green is in the Paddington Green Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. In inner London, a large part of the street parking sits inside borough-run controlled parking zones. In Paddington Green, a van will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
If you live in a flat close to London Paddington station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. For a family home near Ark Paddington Green Primary Academy, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.
