Walk-in wardrobes in Victoria, Westminster

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Victoria, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
  • Shelves for shoes and bags
  • Long and double hanging planned around your clothes

Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room

About our walk-in wardrobes in Victoria

You do not need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, with doors or left open. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. If you’re living with somewhere to sit and get ready and shelves for shoes and bags, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. For one of the older homes that make up a large share of the housing around Victoria, we plan the layout so the window opens fully and the light still comes in. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.

The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Fitting day, step by step

At the end, we tidy up. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. You receive a written quote for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

How to get a quote

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Advice

Is bespoke worth it?

There’s a place for both. For a simple space, off-the-shelf can do the job. Where the room is awkward or you want it to feel built in, bespoke is normally the better fit. Recesses in older houses come in every size except the standard ones, so ready-made units rarely fill them properly. Made for the space, the furniture uses the full width and height.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the design visit.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Victoria

Do you cover homes near London Victoria station?

Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

It’s made in sections, sized for the route along with the room itself. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Wipe painted surfaces with a soft, damp cloth
  • Plan lighting with your electrician
  • Plan shoe storage around what you own
  • Know what you will keep before planning

New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

Deal with any damp before the units go in. Cooler external walls can lead to condensation, and ventilation inside the units helps.

Walk-in wardrobes in Victoria: local notes

In the streets around Victoria, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 48%) and the years since 2000 (about 18%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Victoria, Historic England’s list includes Buckingham Palace Riding School (Grade I), less than half a mile north, and Church of St Barnabas (Grade I), less than half a mile south-west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Near central London, streets tend to be narrow and busy, so carrying the sections from the van to the door takes planning.

For families living near St Peter's Eaton Square CofE Primary School, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. Buckingham Palace, about 0.4 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near Green Park, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.

Every home in SW1V, SW1P and SW1X is within our area for walk-in wardrobes. Victoria sits close to the A202 and A302, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. If you’re just outside Victoria, we also cover Belgravia (1 mile north-west), Pimlico (1 mile south-east), Westminster (1 mile north-east), Millbank (1 mile north-east) and Brompton (1 mile west). Other parts of Westminster we cover include Marylebone (2 miles north), Covent Garden (2 miles north-east), Aldwych (2 miles north-east), Paddington Green (2 miles north-west), Paddington (2 miles north-west) and Connaught Village (2 miles north-west).

When is bespoke worth it?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
