Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Goddington

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Goddington

Drawers, shelves and shoe storage make a walk-in wardrobe work day to day. Folded knitwear sits well on shelves, while drawers hold smaller things and shoes get shelving of their own. A dressing table with a mirror can be built in where there’s space. People typically come to us about storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe and room for two wardrobes in one space, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

In a 1930s semi, the main bedroom often sits over the front room and its bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Around Goddington, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so that shape of room is worth knowing. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

What happens on fitting day

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are normally straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
  6. Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Goddington

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Goddington were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 59%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 18%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Goddington, Historic England’s list includes Goddington House (Grade II), less than half a mile north. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. Vans bringing furniture to Goddington fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.

If you live in a flat close to Chelsfield station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. For an older house near Christ Church, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For families living near The Highway Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Flats, leases and landlords

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it during the design visit.

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers keep smaller clothes and accessories tidy, and they can sit below the hanging or within a run of shelves.

Hanging rails

Full-length hanging suits coats and long garments, and the rest can be double hung.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Goddington

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Goddington?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Chelsfield station?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Is it better to have doors or open storage?

Either works. Doors give a tidy look and help keep dust away, and open storage makes things quick to find. A mix of the two is common.

Should I send photos?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough sizes. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.

Is ventilation important in a dressing room?

Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. The design allows air to circulate, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.

Practical tips

The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:

  • Let air move through the space
  • Count your shoes before the design visit
  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Count your coats and long garments

Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

Talk to your electrician early about lighting. New lights and wiring are for them, and it is easier to plan the units around it from the start.

When you need someone else

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Fixing the cause of damp
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Making good walls and ceilings

Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.
