St Ann's Walk-in Wardrobes

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in St Ann's, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Separate space for two people’s clothes
  • A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
  • A calmer, clearer bedroom

Need walk-in wardrobes in St Ann's?

Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?

Some homes have a small room that never quite earns its keep. Turning it into a dressing room can make better use of it than keeping a bed in it.

A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • Proper shoe storage
  • A side each for a couple
  • A walk-in wardrobe in a box room

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Parish Church of St Ann, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors

Walk-in wardrobes in St Ann's: what you get

A walk-in wardrobe needs air moving through it, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, and we design the units to allow for it. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are turning a box room into a dressing room and a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom.

Older London houses often have sash windows, and their position, along with any shutters, affects where furniture can go. For one of the older homes that make up a large share of the housing around St Ann's, the layout lets the sash open fully and keeps the light unblocked. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Caring for painted furniture

People planning walk-in wardrobes often ask about these. They help whatever the room:

  • Count your coats and long garments
  • Keep the room ventilated
  • Plan lighting with your electrician
  • Deal with any damp walls first

Store heavy things on lower shelves, and don’t overload a single rail. It helps the shelves and rails stay straight.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.

What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we do not do:

  • Structural changes or removing walls
  • Making good walls and ceilings
  • Electrical work in the room

Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll tell you. Our process from visit to fitting.

Bruce Castle, about 1.3 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. If you live in a period home close to St Ann's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in St Ann's

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in St Ann's?

Yes, we work across Haringey, St Ann's included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in St Ann's?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?

The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk it through during the design visit.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us, and we will see what we can do.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it is useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home. It could be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and talk through hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. The units are made in our workshop.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

How to prepare

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

How to get a quote

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, use our contact form.
