How fitting day works
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. It is useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including anything on the walls near the work. We cover floors and doorways first. Sections are then carried in and assembled.
- You get in touch and describe the room.
- At the design visit we agree the layout and check how the units will reach the room. It is useful to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- We send a quote in writing.
- In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls.
Preparing the room
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Ask for a quote
We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Advice
About our walk-in wardrobes in Streatham Hill
Lighting makes a big difference in a dressing room, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We plan the units with your electrician’s work in mind, and agree the details during the design visit. If your home has turning a box room into a dressing room and separate space for two people’s clothes, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
The positions of the window, the radiator and the door shape a bedroom more than its size. Whatever kind of home you have in Streatham Hill, we start there, then plan fitted furniture on the walls that are left. Nothing is built tight over a radiator, so the heat still reaches the room.
Our quotes are written in plain words. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish.

How we price walk-in wardrobes
To work out the quote, we look at:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- The internal fittings
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Before the design visit
To help us picture the room, please include:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Examples of the look you’re after
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
A bespoke walk-in wardrobe takes more planning than buying a system, and it costs more. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. Standalone furniture leaves gaps behind and above it that gather dust, and fitted furniture closes them, which makes cleaning simpler.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit, then set it out in the quote.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Is parking a problem for fitting in Streatham Hill?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Is Streatham Hill in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?
Yes, Streatham Hill is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Lambeth and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Is it better to have doors or open storage?
There is no single right answer. Doors, open rails and shelves can all be combined, and we go through the options when we measure.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
We plan the route in at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Honest limits
Not everything around walk-in wardrobes is carpentry, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
- Building a new partition wall
- Curing damp in the walls
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Walk-in wardrobes in Streatham Hill: local notes
In the area around Streatham Hill, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 36%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 23%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. The Streatham High Road and Streatham Hill Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Streatham Hill. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 21% of households in the area around Streatham Hill, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it is worth checking yours first.
Close to Streatham Common? Keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Living in a block of flats near Streatham Hill station? Then the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Kingswood House, about 1.9 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we’ve measured the way in.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.
