About our walk-in wardrobes in Clapham Park
You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors give a tidy, finished look and help keep dust away, while open storage lets you see everything at once. The choice is yours, and we will go through it when we measure. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are a bedroom without crowded wardrobes and shelves for shoes and bags.
Older bedrooms normally have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of homes around Clapham Park are that old. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around.
The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

How it is made
Hand-painted finish
Some people like the character of a hand-painted finish in a period room.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Painted MDF doors look crisp and suit a calm, simple look.
Bedroom storage in Clapham Park
Homes built before 1919 make up about 47% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Clapham Park, with about 21% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. There are 38 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Clapham Park. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and walk-in wardrobes can be designed to work around them. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Clapham Park, as it does anywhere else in London. We plan parking and access with you during the design visit.
If you live in a period home close to Church of the Holy Spirit, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live near Max Roach Park, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.
Clapham Park is about 1 mile north-east of Stockwell, within the London Borough of Lambeth. Anywhere in Clapham Park, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We list Clapham Park among 22 places we cover in Lambeth.
Here we cover the SW4, SW2 and SW12 postcode area for walk-in wardrobes. You’ll find streets here like Lynn Road, West Road and Elms Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for walk-in wardrobes. Nearby you’ll also find St James' Hospital (1.4 miles south-west) and Soseki Museum (0.9 miles north-west).
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

How fitting day works
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- First, you let us know about the space.
- The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
- A written quote is sent to you.
- The units are built in our workshop.
- We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer. Each unit is set level and scribed to the walls.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
How to get a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Advice
The problems walk-in wardrobes solve
Couples sharing a wardrobe often want more space each. A walk-in wardrobe can be planned with a side for each, so both have room.
We are often asked to help with:
- Room for two wardrobes in one space
- Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
- A walk-in wardrobe in a box room
- Proper shoe storage
For a family home near Glenbrook Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.
Before you hire any carpenter
- A written quote that sets out the job
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Clapham Park
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Clapham Park?
Yes, we work across Lambeth, Clapham Park included, and across the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Clapham Park?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Do pictures help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
Should a walk-in wardrobe have doors?
There is no single right answer. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we will talk it through at the measuring visit.
