Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Sundridge
You don’t need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, either open to the room or behind doors. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that’s for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. If your home has moving wardrobes out of the bedroom and room for two wardrobes in one space, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Fitted furniture in a bedroom has to work with how you use the room. In Sundridge, as anywhere in London, we start by asking what the room is for. Then the layout, doors and inside fittings follow. You choose the colour, spray-painted or hand-painted.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Questions from Sundridge
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Sundridge?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
I live near Sundridge Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?
Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, particularly against a cooler external wall. We allow for ventilation in the design.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Sundridge
Some want somewhere to sit and get ready. We can design a dressing table into the room next to the hanging and shoe storage.
Some of the things we are asked to solve include:
- A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
- A use for a small spare room
- A dressing area in part of a bedroom
- Somewhere for shoes to live
Close to Elmstead Wood? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

- How parking will work on your street
- How doors and drawers are fitted

Bedroom storage in Sundridge
About 33% of the homes in the area around Sundridge went up before 1919, and about 27% between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The centre of Sundridge is within about a quarter of a mile of the Garden Road Conservation Area. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. We’ll plan where the van can stop.
For families living near St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. If you live in a period home close to St Andrew, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.
Sundridge is about 4 miles south-east of Orpington, part of the London Borough of Bromley. Whether your home in Sundridge is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. We cover places right across Bromley.
In BR1, BR7 and BR2, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. You’ll find streets here like Hawes Road, North Road and Croft Road, and we cover homes on all of them for walk-in wardrobes. We also cover the places around Sundridge: Plaistow (1 mile west), Grove Park (1 mile north), Downham (1 mile north-west), Chinbrook (1 mile north) and Elmstead (1 mile east). Elsewhere in Bromley, we also cover Orpington (4 miles south-east), Beckenham (2 miles west), St Mary Cray (4 miles south-east), Chislehurst (2 miles east), Penge (4 miles west) and Anerley (4 miles west).
Near you in Sundridge
Our area takes in the homes around Holy Trinity College Bromley, The Railway Tavern and Haberdashers' Aske's Knights Academy, among other places. There is a railway station in Sundridge itself: Sundridge Park station. Other landmarks nearby include The Glades (0.9 miles south) and Prefab Museum (1.7 miles north-west). For a walk, there’s Downham Woodland Walk.
Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls, with scribing where they wander and packing where floors dip. Hand painting can happen on site, while spray-painted pieces come ready from the workshop.
- You get in touch and describe the room.
- We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls.
Preparing the room
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Ask for a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Advice
Caring for painted furniture
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Plan shoe storage around what you own
- Measure how much long hanging you need
- Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
- Wipe painted surfaces with a soft, damp cloth
Where we have fitted adjustable shelves, you can move them to suit what you store. A seasonal tidy keeps it working well.
A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We fit the furniture once the room is ready.
Flats, conversions and lettings
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
