Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Westbourne

Walk-in wardrobes in Westbourne

Good light helps you see colours and find things, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We can plan the units so there is space for the lighting you want and agree the details when we measure. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are the right mix of long and short hanging and a dressing area in part of a bedroom.

Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of the homes around Westbourne date from then. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Westbourne

How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Westbourne?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Walk-in wardrobes are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Westbourne?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so there are no gaps at the sides.

Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?

Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. The design allows air to circulate, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.

Flats, conversions and lettings

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising at the measuring visit.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Westbourne

Homes built before 1919 make up about 59% of the housing in the area around Westbourne, with about 14% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Westbourne is partly covered by the Westbourne Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. More than half of the homes in the streets around Westbourne (about 59%) were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). A small spare room in an older house can make a good dressing room, with storage scribed to walls that wander.

For families living near St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. The wider area includes historic houses such as Kensington Palace, about 0.8 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Westbourne is part of the City of Westminster, about 2 miles east of City of Westminster. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Westbourne included. Westbourne is one of 29 places on our list for Westminster.

Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Westbourne

Most people come to us because their clothes have outgrown their wardrobes. Clothes are squashed together and shoes pile up. A dressing room spreads it all out so you can see it.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • Room for a growing wardrobe
  • Turning a box room into a dressing room
  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
  • A calmer, clearer bedroom

What to check before you book

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • A quote in writing that sets out the job

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

Standard systems come in set widths and heights and rarely reach the ceiling. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, which can add a lot of storage. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings, with panels and details to suit the house.

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Why choose Bespoke Carpentry in Westbourne

How we price walk-in wardrobes

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Parking near your home
  • How square the room is
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

What to send when you contact us

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To arrange it, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Fitting day, step by step

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Hand painting, if that’s your finish, can follow the fitting.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the room.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through hanging, shoe storage and a dressing table.
  3. You receive a quote in writing.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted in your home.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
