Little Venice Walk-in Wardrobes

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Little Venice starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • Somewhere to sit and get ready
  • A side each for a couple
  • Room for a growing wardrobe

How it’s made

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers keep smaller clothes and accessories tidy, and they can sit below the hanging or shelves.

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done on site, once the units are fitted. It’s easy to touch up later.

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Little Venice

A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, either open to the room or behind doors. Any new partition wall is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. Most enquiries start with more space for clothes and shoes and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In a Victorian bedroom, the chimney breast typically sits on a side wall, with a recess to each side. A large share of the homes around Little Venice date from before 1919, so many bedrooms there may share that layout. Storage can go in each recess, with a bridge of cupboards over the chimney breast, leaving the breast itself clear. Any capped chimney is kept ventilated.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it at the design visit.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, as well as a bigger outlay. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it cannot tip, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Little Venice

Do you cover homes near London Paddington station?

Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.

My house in Little Venice is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Usually not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.

Should I send photos?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We will design around them.

Little Venice homes and walk-in wardrobes

In the streets around Little Venice, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 47%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 16%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Little Venice, Historic England’s list includes Catholic Apostolic Church and Church House (Grade I), less than half a mile north-east, and Church of St Mary Magdalene (Grade I), less than half a mile west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. Where a home in Little Venice is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.

Living in a block of flats near London Paddington station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Winfield House, about 1 mile north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If your children go to Ark Paddington Green Primary Academy or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.

  1. We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold, from long coats to shoes.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers, including any dressing table.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build everything in our workshop.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. We then check the doors and drawers with you.

Before fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough measurements. To share them, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
